KAMPALA, Uganda, June 28, 2014 (The New Times) --- CHINA SAYS its relationship with Africa is a mutually beneficial one-a relationship of equal partners. In practice however, one is the giver and the other plays the receiving party; a lopsided association.

I felt more challenged than privileged when myself, Sunny Ntayombya, The New Times features editor, and thirty other scholarship beneficiaries from Africa and the Caribbean Islands graduated with a master in international communication. We were the third batch of a long term project in which China seeks to improve its image in Africa and other parts of the world through improved public-diplomacy.

Namibia: Russian Scholarships Heavily Underused

NAMIBIA, June 25, 2014 (New Era) -- The Russian Embassy says it is concerned about the low uptake of scholarships provided to the Namibian government through a political quota, revealing that only one of the 25 scholarships offered last year was granted.

The Ministry of Education however says it is working tirelessly to fully utilise the scholarships, but is struggling to get suitable candidates. Also, Russian tertiary requirements are not making the situation any easier, the ministry said.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, June 24, 2014 (SA Info) -- South Africa was Africa's best foreign direct investment (FDI) performer in 2013, topping the charts for both inflows and outflows of FDI and leading the trend towards increasing intra-African investment, according to the UN Conference on Trade and Development's (UNCTAD's) latest World Investment Report.
